Barry Smithard BA Dip.Tech(Eng) Dip.MS MIPR (Managing Director)
is a graduate of London University. His press relations and public relations experience is extensive. Between 1974 and 1977 he was with the International Affairs department of British Airways subsidiary IAL, promoting their professional consultancy services and merchandising operation worldwide. There followed three years with EMI - now THORN - where he was responsible for the press and public relations programmes of twelve companies in the Group. A business-to-business and professional services PR specialist, he formed Smithard Associates in 1980.The Consultancy markets cost-effective business development public relations services designed for today's rapidly changing markets and competitive environment.
Pam Smithard (Associate Director)
joined Smithard Associates in 1993. She is the Consultancy's television business specialist. Her background is in programme scheduling, acquisition, international sales and co-production. Her contacts in the business are extensive. She was instrumental in establishing the ITV Network Film Centre. She was a director of Anthony Morris Ltd (AML), the international TV programme distributor, for 12 years. Other industry appointments include General Manager of Portman Entertainment and subsequently Director International Sales. Her major international client is NATPE (National Association of Television Program Executives). As European Director she has responsibility for managing and promoting the Association's professional and educational activities throughout Europe and for handling media relations and business interest in the development of TV markets world-wide.
Eva Maclaine BA (Hons) MIPR (Associate Director)
specialises in corporate communications and environmental public relations programmes. Her experience includes working for blue chip UK clients like Pilkington, Shanks & McEwan and the London Metal Exchange. Overseas assignments encompass work for energy and conservation organisations including the Polish State Forests and the Western Samoan Water Authority and she has worked at senior government level on a number of EU projects. She has published numerous articles and papers on public relations and the management of investment in sustainable natural resources; latterly providing the professional PR view at a seminar to an international group of finance ministers and government officials for the Adam Smith Institute. A multilingual PR professional, she is fluent in French, Polish and Russian and has expert knowledge of Central Europe: she established a public relations division in Warsaw for leading advertising agency Ogilvy & Mather. She is a Member of the Institute of Public Relations (IPR), the IPR Government Affairs Group and the National Union of Journalists.
